Dot Day

Summary: This project is based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. The Dot is a story about a student who did not think they were creative in art class. The art teacher challenged the student to make just one dot. The main idea of the project associated with this book is to provide students with coffee filters, markers, crayons, and watercolor paint. Students use these media to create their very own dot just like the student in the book.
Extension Activity: This project could have a major connection with social-emotional learning in the classroom. Both the story and assigned project can provide students an outlet to define their own success. Additionally, students could complete a writing activity where they explain why they created their dot the way they did.
